It’s such an intricate and complex world！ The writing is magical and quite funny but I’m glad I have seen the movies before or I would have been utterly lost！ Some passages are a bit too slow to my taste and it took me a long time to read it， which can be at times frustrating。 But I feel like it is rewarding in the end and it’s totally worth it！Maybe not a great one to start with if you’re new to high fantasy but definitely a classic to read！

Wow， just incredible。 This is the first time I've started this series since I was 12 years old。 I truly struggled to stomach the writing style and the seemingly meandering plot when I was younger and promptly put it down soon after the Tom Bombadil chapter。 However， upon revisiting the story I've come to appreciate this novel so much more。 Almost every single aspect of this book I can praise。 The characters， the beautiful prose that guides us through their journey and the enchanting poetry that Wow， just incredible。 This is the first time I've started this series since I was 12 years old。 I truly struggled to stomach the writing style and the seemingly meandering plot when I was younger and promptly put it down soon after the Tom Bombadil chapter。 However， upon revisiting the story I've come to appreciate this novel so much more。 Almost every single aspect of this book I can praise。 The characters， the beautiful prose that guides us through their journey and the enchanting poetry that serves as a resting point between the thrilling encounters that Frodo and the squad experience。 While I know that this is only one part of a complete story， the ending still felt like a great closing point to me， actually giving me a lot of emotion which I was very surprised by。 If I have any critisms I will say that it takes a while for the plot to really 'start' and I would love to learn more about the sort of side characters of the Fellowship such as Legolas and Gimli。 But overall， really a perfect start to this story10/10 。。。more

Tolkein's Lord of the Rings trilogy， one of the most well known pieces of literature ever written， inspiration for countless writers of the modern age， themselves titans of their genres。 Anything that can be said in a review has already been said in the 67 years since the first part， The Fellowship of the Ring， was published， so I thought I would talk about one character in particular who， while being a rather large character in the story， was omitted from Jacksons adaptation， Tom Bombadil。Tom B Tolkein's Lord of the Rings trilogy， one of the most well known pieces of literature ever written， inspiration for countless writers of the modern age， themselves titans of their genres。 Anything that can be said in a review has already been said in the 67 years since the first part， The Fellowship of the Ring， was published， so I thought I would talk about one character in particular who， while being a rather large character in the story， was omitted from Jacksons adaptation， Tom Bombadil。Tom Bombadil is one of the most mysterious characters in the Lord of the Rings， theories abound about exactly who Tom and his wife， Goldberry are， or what they represent， but it's difficult to work out exactly where Tom fits。 He speaks in rhyme or sings and cares not about the affairs of man， hobbit or elf， but Tom is the one character not affected by the ring。 He's wise， knowledgeable and makes it very clear he's the oldest person in middle earth， telling Frodo he was there when "the Dark Lord came from 'outside'"， yet knowing of things of such importance， he still speaks of them in a whimsical manner。 Tom is neither good nor evil， which it seems， would be the reason the ring doesn't affect him， yet still goes out of his way to help the Hobbits without ever appearing to take their 'side'。But who is Tom？ Of all the theories I've heard the one that sits best with me is that both Tom and his wife are allegorical characters meant to represent mother nature and father time。 It explains Tom being "master of mountain， valley and river" and being so old。 Tolkein wrote a collection of poems about Tom Bombadil where he was a nature spirit， so despite not fitting easily into the good v's evil narrative of Lord of the Rings， it's clear Tolkein had Tom in mind for longer than this trilogy， and it feels his wife's character from Lord of the Rings is a natural progression from the Tom Bombadil of those poems。I'm quite sad that Tom was cut from the movies， it would have been really nostalgic for me， anyway， to see Tom with his big beard， blue feather in his 'Big Hat Logan' hat， blue coat and bright red face， although I can see why he was， it wouldn't be easy to make a strangly dressed man who speaks in nonsense riddles， appealing to those not familiar with the books。 But boy do we miss out on some action too， Old Man Willow， the Barrow-wights and Tom's story telling skills。5*。 A classic of the fantasy genre， incredible world & character building even if Tolkein has a habit of describing in depth， things that add nothing to the plot or narrative。 I can overlook the extra 100-150 pages that don't need to be there because he invented Hobbits and the Balrog etc， fantasy fans owe Tolkein everything。 。。。more

Have to say I would have found this difficult had I read it as a physical book （I listened as an audiobook）。 An absolute classic but as usual with many of these， especially Tolkien， a difficult read and old language style。 Enjoyed it still。Word of warning for audiobook listeners， suggest not listening to the ringwraiths walking down dark streets。 The volume turned up gave me a bit of a turn。

সেই কথা আর না-ই বা বলি। ভারাক্রান্ত মন নিয়ে এইবার দুয়েকটা খুশির কথা বলে চলি。。。❛লটর : ফেলোশিপ অব দ্য রিং❜-এর মূল লেখক টোলকিন দাদুকে ট্রিবিউট দিতে গিয়ে ঐশ্বর্য প্রকাশনা ছয়টি খণ্ডে বইটি প্রকাশ করার ইচ্ছা পোষণ করেন। কিন্তু প্রথম খণ্ড বের হওয়ার পর বাকি পাঁচ খণ্ড কখনও বের হবে কি-না সেই সম্পর্কে অজানা। অনুবাদক নিজেই বলেছেন， “এই সিরিজটা শেষ না করে যদি মরে যাই， তাহলে প্রচণ্ড একটা আফসোস থাকবে।” ব্যক্তিগতভাবে আমি চাই না， অনুবাদক এই আফসোস নিয়ে ইহলোক ত্যাগ করেন। ওনার ইচ্ছা যেন পরিপূর্ণতা পায় সেই দোয়া করছি। ভবিষ্যতে যারা এই প্রজেক্ট নিয়ে কাজ করবেন না করছেন， তাদের নিকট অনুরোধ মিঠু ভাইকে যেন সেই প্রজেক্টে রাখা হয়। কারণ একজন লেখকের ইচ্ছাকে， এইভাবে গলা টিপে মেরে কেউ কখনও মহান হতে পারবে না। ইচ্ছা আর সন্তুষ্টি মিলিয়ে একজন মানুষের আত্মা সম্পূর্ণ হয়। সবার ইচ্ছাকেও প্রাধান্য দেওয়া উচিত বলে মনে করি। ⚊যাহোক， বইয়ের কথা আসি। লটরের জার্নিটা প্রগাঢ়তা দিক থেকে অনেক সমারোহপূর্ণ। যেহেতু এই বইয়ের ছয়টি খণ্ড; তাই একটি খণ্ডে কাহিনির এক-তৃতীয়াংশের অর্ধেকও শেষ হয়নি। বলতে পারি জার্নিটা কেবল শুরু হয়েছে। অর্থাৎ হবিটের চার সদস্য， স্ট্রাইডার মাত্র রিভেনডেলে প্রবেশে মুখের কাছাকাছি এসেছে তখনই সমাপ্ত বইটি হয়েছে। এই পর্যায়ে এসে যখন দ্বিতীয় খণ্ড পড়া না যায়， তখন অবস্থা কেমন হবে একবার ভাবুন। তবে ফ্রোডো ব্যাগিন্স， স্যাম， মেরি， পিপিন， গ্যান্ডালফ， স্ট্রাইডার এবং প্রিয় টম বোম্বাডিল ও গোল্ডবেরির সাথে পুরো সময়টা কেটেছে অসাধারণ। যা তুলনাহীন। একেবারে মন ছুঁয়ে যাওয়ার মতোই। এর জন্য অনুবাদকের নিকট কৃতজ্ঞ কারণ পুরো বইটি প্রাঞ্জল আর ছন্দমাধুর্য নিয়ে অনুবাদ করার জন্য।➲ আখ্যান— এই এক আংটির শাসনে সবাই， এই আংটিতে সব অশুভ ধাঁধা; এই আংটির টানে আসে সবাই， অশুভের জালে পড়ে যায় বাধা।বহু বহু কাল আগে এলফরা অনেকগুলো জাদুর আংটি তৈরি করেছিল， রিং অফ পাওয়ার। এই আংটিগুলো ব্যবহারকারীকে খুব ক্ষমতাধর করে তুলত। অন্যদিকে আঁধার সম্রাজ্যের অধিপতি ডার্কলর্ড সাউরন একটা আংটি তৈরি করল， দি ওয়ান রিং！ উদ্দেশ্য সব পাওয়ার রিং-এর উপর নিজের ক্ষমতা প্রতিষ্ঠা করা। এই এক আংটি দিয়ে সবার উপর কর্তৃত্ব করতে শুরু করল সাউরন। কিন্তু মিডল-আর্থের বীর জাতিগুলো অধিনতা স্বীকার করতে চাইল না। শুরু হল এক মহাযুদ্ধ। অনেক কষ্টে কোনমতে সাউরনের কাছ থেকে এই ওয়ান-রিং কেড়ে নেয়া সম্ভব হল। মিডল-আর্থে ডার্কলর্ডের দৌরাত্ম থামানো গেল। কিন্তু সাউরন হাল ছাড়ার পাত্র নয়। হাজার হাজার বছর ধরে সে তার আংটি খুঁজে চলল মিডল-আর্থের প্রতিটি কোণে।হাজার হাজার বছর ধরে অনেক হাত ঘুরে আংটিটা এসে পড়ল ফ্রোডো ব্যাগিন্সের হাতে। ফ্রোডো সবুজ ছায়াঘেরা শায়ার রাজ্যের এক শান্তিপ্রিয়， ছাপোষা， আরামপ্রিয় হবিট। হঠাৎ সে আবিষ্কার করল， পৃথিবীকে ভয়ংকর এক বিপদ থেকে বাঁচানোর দায়িত্ব চলে এসেছে তার ছোট্ট দূর্বল কাঁধে।➤ পাঠ প্রতিক্রিয়া— ❛লটর : ফেলোশিপ অব দ্য রিং❜ বইটির পর্যালোচনায় যাচ্ছি না। কারণ গল্পের শেষ হয়নি। তবে প্রথম বইয়ে রয়েছে যথেষ্ট তথ্য এবং সীমাহীন অ্যাডভেঞ্চারের ছোঁয়া। লেখক পরিচিত করিয়েছেন বিভিন্ন স্থান， গুরুত্বপূর্ণ চরিত্র， মিডল-আর্থের প্রাচীন ইতিহাস， মিথ-সহ আরও নানান বিষয়ের। যেহেতু লটর এপিক ফ্যান্টাসি এবং এর বিস্তৃত বৃহৎ তাই পুরোটা জানার জন্য দ্য হবিট থেকে শুরু করে লটর এবং টোলকিনের বিখ্যাত অ্যাপেন্ডিক্স খসড়া পড়তে হবে। তবে সেইসব মনে হয় না উক্ত প্রকাশনা থেকে প্রকাশ করা হবে। এর জন্য মন খারাপ লাগছে।⚊পুরো বইয়ে লটর ইউনিভার্সের সৃষ্টিতত্ত্ব কীভাবে হয়েছে， আরদা （পৃথিবী） গঠিত হওয়ার পেছনের রহস্য， এরু ও আইনির পরিচিতির পর আসে মিডল-আর্থ নিয়ে বিশাল গল্প। মিডল-আর্থের আনাচেকানাচে থাকা প্রত্যকটি স্থান， জীব， জাতি নিয়ে বিস্তারিত তো আছেই। এ-ছাড়া আছে ডার্কলর্ড সাউরন দ্য গ্রেট কে， কেন সে ডার্কলর্ড উপাধিতে ভূষিত হয়েছে এবং কী তার ভবিষ্য চিন্তা এইসব কিছু এই বইয়ের মূল কাহিনিতে উঠে এসেছে। লটরের প্রিক্যুয়েল হচ্ছে ‘দ্য হবিট’। সেখানে মূলত মাস্টার রিংয়ের সূত্রপাত সম্পর্কে বলা হলেও এই বইয়ে গ্যান্ডালফ যখন ফ্রোডোকে সেই মাস্টার রিংয়ের ইতিহাস বলছে তখন আরেকবার জানা হয়ে যাবে। ⚊এই বইয়ের অরিজিনাল ইতিহাস বা আনুষাঙ্গিক বিষয় নিয়ে আপাতত না বলি। কারণ এই নিয়ে অনেক লেখালেখি রয়েছে， ইন্টারনেট ঘাঁটাঘাঁটি করলে কয়েক হাজার তথ্য এমনিতে পাওয়া যাবে। অনুবাদের প্রসঙ্গ টেনে বললে， এত দারুণ কাজ হয়েছে যা না পড়লে বোঝা যাবে না। শব্দচয়নে দক্ষতা， বাক্য গঠনে প্রাঞ্জলতা আর বইয়ের অনেকগুলো কবিতা আছে যা বেশ ভালোভাবে ছন্দ করে মিলিয়ে দেওয়া হয়েছে। সব মিলিয়ে বইটি পড়ার সময় আমিও যেন মিডল-আর্থের হবিট বাহিনীর সাথে শায়ারের মুগ্ধতা， ওল্ড-ফরেস্টের দৃঢ়তা， টম বোম্বাডিলের জ্ঞান গভীরতা， গ্যান্ডালফের সর্তকতা ও স্ট্রাইডার ওরফে অ্যারাগর্নের সাহসিকতায় ডুবে ছিলাম পুরোটা সময় জুড়ে। ➣ লেখক ও অনুবাদক নিয়ে কিছু কথা— লেখক জে。 আর。 আর。 টোলকিন দাদু ফ্যান্টাসির দুনিয়ায় যে আরদা সৃষ্টি করেছেন， তা অভাবনীয় এবং অতুলনীয়। পুরো ইউনিভার্স নিয়ে কতশত থিউরি， ভাষার মিশ্রণ， মিথ， ইতিহাস， রোমাঞ্চকর জাতির আবির্ভাব ঘটিয়েছেন তা শুধু অনুভব করার মতো। মানুষের সাথে হবিট， বামন， এলফ， মায়া আরও কত কিছুর সমন্বয়ে গঠিত এই মিডল-আর্থের নিগূঢ়তা তা জানতে গেলে শুধু অবাক হতে হয়। মিঠু ভাইয়ের উদ্দেশ্য বলব， আপনার কাজ দারুণ হয়েছে। কিন্তু ড্রিম প্রজেক্ট এইভাবে অসমাপ্ত রেখে দেওয়ার সীমাবদ্ধতা নিয়ে পাঠক হিসেবে আমার বেশি কিছু বলার নেই। প্রকাশনার ম্যাটার যেহেতু। সম্ভব হলে ১৫-১৬ বছরের লালিত স্বপ্নকে পূরণ করার শেষ চেষ্টা করবেন। ধন্যবাদ， অসাধারণ বইটির প্রথম খণ্ডকে সুখপাঠ্য হিসেবে গড়ে তোলার জন্য। ● সম্পাদনা ও বানান—পরা-কে （পরিধান করা） পড়া লেখার মতো মাত্রাতিরিক্ত ভুল পুরো বই জুড়ে পরিলক্ষিত। সম্পাদনার দুয়েক জায়গা ছন্দপতন ছাড়া তেমন কোনো ত্রুটি দেখা যায়নি তবে বইয়ের ২৯৪ পৃষ্ঠার রাইডারের ছুরির হাতল স্ট্রাইডার ফেলে দেওয়া সেটা আবার ৩১৩ পৃষ্ঠায় গ্লোরফিল্ডের হাতে তুলে দেওয়াটা কি অরিজিনাল বইয়ের অসংগতি না-কি অনুবাদের সেটা আর খতিয়ে দেখিনি। ● প্রচ্ছদ， অলংকরণ⚊প্রচ্ছন্দ সিম্পল কিন্তু মাস্টার রিংয়ের মতো আকর্ষণীয়। ভেতরের অলংকরণগুলো ভালো লেগেছে। তবে দুটো কালারিং ম্যাপের প্রথমটা ভীষণ অস্পষ্ট লাগল। ● মলাট， বাঁধাই， পৃষ্ঠা—এই বইয়ের সাথে ক্রিম কাগজ হলে দারুণ খাপ খেত। অন্যান্য দিকগুলো নিয়ে বললে—বাঁধাই ঠিকঠাক， মলাট শক্তপোক্ত। সব মিলিয়ে ভালো। ⊙ বই : লটর : ফেলোশিপ অব দ্য রিং ⊙ লেখক : জে。 আর。 আর。 টোলকিন⊙ জনরা : এপিক ফ্যান্টাসি ⊙ প্রথম প্রকাশ : অক্টোবর ২০২০⊙ অনুবাদক : মহিউল ইসলাম মিঠু⊙ নামলিপি ও প্রচ্ছদ : মহিউল ইসলাম মিঠু⊙ প্রকাশনা : ঐশ্বর্য প্রকাশ⊙ মুদ্রিত মূল্য : ৪০০ টাকা মাত্র⊙ পৃষ্ঠা : ৩৩৬ 。。。more

A great adventure story that pulls you in slowly and doesn’t let go。 The best pages are the ones where characters discuss the ring and what should become of it - particularly the internal dialogues of good and evil， peace and power。 I like the characters， but I’m not as emotionally invested in them as I thought I would be。 Perhaps Books 2 & 3 will fix that！
